CAD 58 – Securi-Flex Demonstrates Extended Fire Survival Performance
Securi-Flex has successfully passed all relevant fire resistance tests associated with CAD 58 requirements (Certificated of Assessed Design), achieving the required 120-minute classification while also demonstrating extended survival durations of up to 180 minutes under the same test conditions for their '180 Endurance' cable product.
Testing confirmed that circuit integrity was maintained throughout the extended test periods without reaching the defined point of failure, providing additional assurance for life safety and critical power applications.

Extended Fire Resistance Performance
BS EN 50200
Securi-Flex achieved a survival duration of 180 minutes when tested in accordance with BS EN 50200 (modified to 180 minutes).
The duration of survival was measured up to the point of failure, with the cable successfully maintaining circuit integrity throughout the full 180-minute test period.
BS 8434-2
When tested to BS 8434-2 (modified to 180 minutes), Securi-Flex successfully completed:
- 90 minutes of fire and mechanical impact exposure; followed by
- 90 minutes of combined fire, impact and water spray exposure
The cable completed the full test cycle without reaching the point of failure.
BS 8519 Annex D
Under the enhanced BS 8519 Annex D test protocol (modified to 180 minutes), Securi-Flex achieved:
- 175 minutes of fire and impact exposure; followed by
- 5 minutes of fire, impact and water spray exposure
Again, the cable maintained circuit integrity for the full 180-minute duration without failure.

Proven Beyond the Requirement
While CAD58 certification requires demonstration of 120-minute circuit integrity, Securi-Flex has been independently tested to 180 minutes under BS EN 50200, BS 8434-2 and BS 8519 Annex D modified test regimes. The cable maintained circuit integrity throughout these extended tests without reaching the defined point of failure.
This enhanced performance provides specifiers, consultants and installers with additional confidence when selecting cable systems for critical life-safety services including fire alarm systems, voice alarm systems, smoke control, emergency lighting and other essential emergency power circuits.
