Test Technician

Your main duties will include - relevant to performing tests:

  • To undertake testing, as assigned, within determined competencies and authorisations
  • To check the performance and calibration status of test equipment, liaising with the Laboratory Manager to ensure equipment in use meets the required specification
  • To contribute towards the maintenance and operation of new and existing laboratory facilities, practices and procedures to enable testing work to be carried out in a way that meets BASEC’s, its clients and accreditation needs
  • To ensure that test procedures are followed correctly to enable accreditation to be maintained
  • To ensure the quality and safety procedures are followed within the designated laboratory areas, to meet policy and legislative requirements
  • To carry out preliminary inspections to ensure submissions are as agreed, initiating any remedial action required by liaising with the Laboratory Manager
  • Personal Health & Safety responsibilities
  • Any other reasonable request of management

Your main duties will include - relevant to the planning of tests and evaluation of results:

  • To manage own workload effectively and liaise with other staff members as appropriate to maximise the utilisation of the laboratory resources
  • To keep the Laboratory Production Planner informed of the progression of test work in the laboratory such that the customer can be informed of any delays, non-compliances, etc

Relevant experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in testing and holding current competency and authorisation of the range of tests carried out within the laboratory
  • To develop technical competence by studying standards and undertaking supervised testing associated with the normal product group within the laboratory
  • GCSE Grade C and above in Maths, English and Science
  • HNC in an Engineering discipline desirable

Certification & Compliance Manager

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join a rewarding organisation to direct and manage the Certification department.

Your main duties as Certification & Compliance Manager will include:

  • This will include driving the certification strategy, including the review, maintenance, development and continuing improvement of BASEC’s certification schemes, rules and regulations, compliance to BASEC’s quality manual and procedures, and the maintenance and development of related accreditations.
  • Overall commercial responsibility for the Certification department, including budgeting and planning, ensuring it meets its operational, revenue and financial targets, ensuring tight cost control, and meeting specified service levels.
  • Line manager for Certification department staff, including supervision, training and appraisal. Ensuring the effective and efficient operation of administration and technical certification work, the deployment of staff and subcontracted services.
  • Client certification projects, including their establishment, planning, execution and related decision making, ensuring all projects are progressed promptly.
  • Proactive preparation of audit programmes, audit plans, scheduling of audit visits, the assignment of audit teams, the review of audit reports, procurement of samples and related certification decisions, to optimise revenue streams.
  • Client management and client satisfaction with BASEC’s certification services, including the handling of complaints against clients’ products and against BASEC.
  • Make recommendations to the Chief Executive for proposed certification sanctions to be applied to clients, as necessary.

Compliance Duties:

  • Implement, maintain and improve the documented management system operated by BASEC. Manage accreditations and quality management for the BASEC group’s certification and testing activities to ISO/IEC 17021-1, ISO/IEC 17065, and ISO/IEC 17025, adopting the quality manager role and liaising with accreditation bodies. Duties include the design, maintenance and revision of the applied quality system, scopes, manuals, procedures, other documents and related records, providing oversight of internal quality control, competency, calibration / verification, action chasing and internal reporting.
  • Manage the BASEC group’s technical recognitions and appointments with regulatory bodies, specifier groups and related activities, including Notified Body activities.
  • Provide regular reports on compliance, accreditation, quality and recognition issues to management, and to the Audit Committee ( and Board.

Technical and General Duties:

  • Oversee BASEC’s acquisition and use of external technical standards and related documents, including library maintenance and the conduct of technical reviews.
  • Undertake certification / testing scheme development projects, and internal standards development projects in co-ordination with the Technical Director.
  • Support BASEC’s response to technical enquiries (via email, phone, website), routing these appropriately to the sales, technical, or other teams.
  • Co-ordinate and manage the complaints process in co-ordination with the Technical Director, including complaint receipt, testing and site visits (as required), determination and reporting to complainant parties and to the Audit Committee
  • Undertake technical contract review activities, and other office based duties as instructed by the Technical Director.
  • Any other reasonable request of management.
  • Health & Safety Officer.


This position is based at the BASEC offices in Milton Keynes but may also be required to visit other locations, such as sites, factories, facilities and offices of other organisations including, but not limited to, clients, partners or subcontractors, anywhere in the world.

Relevant experience:

Essential Skills

Lead Auditor - Asia

Your main duties will include:

  1. Being Brand evangelists for the BASEC values, proposition within the market.
  2. Attending client sites both in the UK and overseas to carry out management systems and/or product audits in support of BASEC’s approval schemes and/or Construction Products Regulation (Cables) requirements. All as instructed by the Certification Office.
  3. Undertaking, product audits/ sample selection of cables and pickups at client sites as directed.
  4. Dealing with audit and technical enquiries raised by clients and feeding them back to the certification office in relation to the various schemes operated by BASEC.
  5. Reviewing of audit reports and responses to non-conformities raised during audits, on time preparation of audit reports and management feedback.
  6. Providing assistance to the certification team with respect to audit plans, and complaints as and when required.
  7. Witness E&M, MV, HV and fire testing at clients’ sites and/or test laboratories.
  8. Supporting the Chief Executive, Certification Manager and other staff as and when required.
  9. Health & Safety Responsibilities.

Critical Criteria

  • Registered lead auditor for ISO 9001, 14001 or 45001
  • Proven ability to meet targets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A willingness to travel both nationally and internationally
  • The ability to work on your own and also as part of a team.

Preferred Criteria

  • Experience of cable manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of cable standards.

The duties are predominantly non-BASEC office based and will be performed at various locations, anywhere in the world, such as sites, factories, facilities, offices of other organisations including but not limited to clients or subcontractors. Up to 80% of a lead auditors time is spent travelling. When not auditing, Lead Auditors will be home based or working from a local BASEC office where applicable.

We are open to location provided the individual is based in Asia, self-employed sub-contractor will also be considered for this role.

Regional Technical Manager - UK & Europe

Key Contacts/Relationships with BASEC customers, stakeholders and influencers, management team, business development, customer account executives and regional commercial managers.

The Regional Technical Manager is responsible for the day to day management of all technical activities within their region and ensure we exceed the regional commercial budget as established by the CEO & Board of Directors.

Your main duties will include:

  • Develop and implementation of the regional technical strategy, aligning to the overall company strategy and direction.
  • Manage all technical end user, influencer, stakeholder technical queries
  • Evangelise the technical competence of BASEC in delivering customer based technical solutions
  • Engaging BASEC market place to influence the “pull strategy” of key stakeholder in specifying BASEC products throughout the supply chain
  • Ensure BASEC brand values and strategic vision is maintained within the industry and always evangelise what we stand for.
  • Working in partnership with regional commercial managers (RCM) & customer account executives (CAE) to develop growth plans for strategic customers, strategic partnerships ensuring a customer centric view has been developed.
  • Continue to enhance the BASEC business model by making it market relevant, and competitive, based upon commercial & technical acumen, and customer insight.
  • Become a market recognised thought leader in your region, and across the company as subject matter expert for LV, MV, HV – whilst also a technical expert on Fire & CPR and wider cable technologies
  • Become a sector cable specialist across the BASEC target sectors optimising sector sales growth potential
  • Business development within the region in conjunction with the regional commercial team and ensure continuous focus on revenue growth
  • Creation of market leading content that engages the wider audiences and promotes the value of BASEC within the market place
  • Make presentations as requested on behalf of BASEC.

Design & Marketing Executive

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Designer and Marketing Executive to join a rewarding organisation to help develop successful marketing campaigns and increase BASEC’s global and national presence.

Your main duties as Marketing Communications Executive will include:

  • The design and execution of finalised graphic, digital, video, event & marketing assets
  • Solid research, planning & storyboarding of draft concepts to briefs
  • Maintain consistent brand styling and adapt, develop new layouts/templates
  • Coordinate the timely release & processing of precise/accurate print and ready to use files to colleagues/external media & advertising partners
  • Photography of service offering for use in materials
  • Assist the commercial team with creative thinking and concept development, through collaborative discussions and marketing or industry specific research
  • Liaise with external partners
  • Supporting PR activities from writing and creating supporting infographic content
  • To build and maintain press relationships
  • Contributing towards marketing campaigns creation & execution
  • Creating social media messaging and assets in-line with corporate branding & campaign style

Relevant experience:

Essential Skills

Creative and digital design, with a strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite - primarily InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere. Proven experience and expertise in graphic design asset creation, social media, email and online marketing.

Graphic Design & Marketing Executive Experience

To be successful in this role you will have an instinctive creative flair. You will relish the opportunity to take a concept vision, justify, plan and bring it to life. A collaborative, team player who works with the wider team to understand their needs and supporting marketing research/planning activity will be central to this position. Assembling pre-designed concepts from your marketing colleagues and wider commercial team will be second nature to you.

You will have a strong marketing background working within a similar role. You will hold a degree in execution focused design and/or a professional marketing qualification (CIM or IDM) and will have a minimum of 3 years marketing work experience in a B2B environment. Technical experience of website development would be advantageous. Knowledge of the cable market isn’t essential but would also be advantageous.
