Lead Auditor - UK

Reports to: Certification and Compliance Director

Main duties:

  • Attending client sites both in the UK and overseas to carry out management systems and/or product audits in support of BASEC’s approval schemes and/or Construction Products Regulation (Cables) requirements. All as instructed by the Certification Office
  • Undertaking cable selections and pickup’s at client sites as directed
  • Dealing with assessment and technical enquiries raised by clients and feeding them back to the office in relation to the various certification schemes operated by BASEC
  • Reviewing of audit reports and responses to Non-conformities raised during audits
  • Providing assistance to the Certification Team with respect to Audit Plans, and complaints as and when required
  • Witness MV, HV and Fire testing at clients’ sites and/or test laboratories
  • Supporting the Chief Executive, Technical Director and other staff as and when required
  • Health & Safety Responsibilities.

  • Registered lead auditor for ISO 9001

The duties are predominantly non-BASEC office based and will be performed at various locations, anywhere in the world, such as sites, factories, facilities, offices of other organisations including but not limited to clients or subcontractors. Up to 80% of a lead auditors time is spent travelling. When not auditing, Lead Auditors are expected to attend the BASEC office. The Regional Technical Manager is responsible for the day to day management of all technical activities within China and Asia, and ensure we exceed the regional commercial budget as established by the CEO & Board of Directors.

  • Develop, drive, and implement the technical development of vertical markets across all geographic regions to accelerate BASEC end user demand and wider market influence.

MV Test Engineer - UAE

Job reference number: JD 080

Reporting to: Laboratory Manager

Responsibilities with respect to performing tests (80-90% of time):

  • To undertake medium voltage cables terminations for electrical testing (including the water terminations).
  • To undertake all electrical and non-electrical testing for MV cables as per national and inter- national standards, as assigned, within determined competencies and authorisations.
  • To ensure that safety and testing procedures are followed correctly to enable accreditation to be maintained.
  • To check the performance and calibration status of test equipment, liaising with the Laboratory Manager to ensure equipment in use meets the required specification.
  • To contribute towards the maintenance and operation of new and existing laboratory facilities, practices and procedures to enable testing work to be carried out in a way that meets BASEC’s, its customers’ and accreditation needs.
  • To take initiative for solving any issue within the equipment with the main equipment supplier and other day-to-day test issues.
  • To develop technical competence by studying standards and undertaking supervised testing associated with the normal product group within the laboratory.

Managerial (10-20% of time):

  • Supervision of Laboratory Technicians and any other section as required by the Laboratory Manager

  • To ensure the quality and safety procedures are followed within the designated laboratory areas, to meet policy and legislative requirements
  • To work with the Laboratory Manager to support allocating work and report on progress to agreed completion targets
  • To review working practises and equipment so maintaining a culture of continuous improvement
  • Any other reasonable request of management

Responsibilities with respect to the planning of tests and evaluation of results:

  • To manage own workload effectively and liaise with other staff members as appropriate to maximise the utilisation of the laboratory resources
  • To keep the Laboratory Manager informed of the progression of test work in the laboratory such that the customer can be informed of any delays, non-compliances etc.

Responsibilities for reporting opinions and interpretations:

  • To carry out preliminary inspections to ensure submissions are as agreed, initiating any remedial action required by liaising with the Laboratory Manager

Responsibilities with respect to method modification and development and validation of new methods:

  • To undertake practical run through of any new test methods before general rollout into the laboratory (equipment, procedure, training requirements, etc).

Critical Criteria:

  • 5 years’ experience in medium voltage cables electrical and non-electrical testing, especially type testing.
  • HNC in an engineering discipline or diploma/degree in electrical engineering

The duties will be performed predominantly at the BASEC Lab in Dubai
