BASEC and Northern Powergrid host joint webinar
Northern Powergrid is the UK power distribution network operator (DNO) for North East England and Yorkshire regions and the North Lincolnshire area. The DNO distributes electricity to 3.9 million homes and businesses across the region through their network of more than 63,000 substations, some 60,000 miles of overhead power lines and underground cables spanning 9,650 square miles.
On 1st December 2022, BASEC and Northern Powergrid hosted a joint webinar presenting an introduction to Northern Powergrid’s network.
The webinar speakers from Northern Powergrid included Steve Salkeld – Policy and Standards Engineer, and James Bell – Purchasing Operations Manager. Jaya Skandamoorthy – Regional Technical Manager for UK and Europe at BASEC chaired the event, which provided an overview of Northern Powergrid’s technical specification for low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) cables and their procurement processes, including planned tenders.
Northern Powergrid recognises the value of BASEC’s product approval for LV and MV cables. Products holding the BASEC quality mark provide confidence to the DNO, as they demonstrate compliance to relevant standards, while verifying that the requirements of factory production and quality controls have been met.
