A recent lightning strike triggered a power cut which caused a 5% loss of power to the UK electricity distribution grid.
Such power losses can be a localised nuisance or a national catastrophe and can be caused by a number of natural or man-made factors, including: copper theft, fire damage, bird collision, digger damage or issues with Cable Quality.
