BASEC laboratory obtains DEWA approval for low voltage cables

BASEC’s testing laboratory has recently been assessed and approved by DEWA - Dubai Electricity & Water Authority to perform type testing of low voltage – LV power cables.

In late 2020 BASEC was granted DEWA approval. DEWA was established in 1992 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), as a result of the merging of the Dubai Electricity Company and Dubai Water Department. In the last 28 years, DEWA has made significant achievements and ranks as one of the best utilities in the world. DEWA provides more than 45,000 GWh of electricity per year and is central to the safe and reliable operation of power and water utilities within the UAE region.

Now that BASEC’s testing laboratory is approved by DEWA, this means that cable manufacturers who successfully pass BASEC type testing of LV cables, as per DEWA’s requirements, will now comply with DEWA’s assessment specifications. In turn, this means they are also therefore eligible to become LV cable product providers for DEWA, subject to all other criteria having also been met.

Those already holding BASEC approvals are at a strong advantage, as this news opens the doors to new business opportunities in the UAE. The approval of BASEC’s testing laboratory is an important and fantastic milestone, which confirms that BASEC’s status as a leading and established provider of recognised quality and safety assessments worldwide.

Haroon Qteishat, Regional Commercial Manager in Middle East and Africa comments, “Being appointed by DEWA is a further confirmation that always more entities around the world recognise and choose BASEC as their trusted cable certification partner. We are very proud to participate in this global phenomenon, exporting the values of integrity, quality and safety worldwide.”
