Sector Cable Standards

BASEC's cable testing capabilities extend to a number of specialist sectors including rail, marine and offshore, oil and gas, petrochemical, process industries, renewable energy and automotive. As well as full or limited type testing we can provide a number of other services to these project-based sectors including the provision of information on tests, standards and requirements, training, factory capability assessments and inspections, pre-shipment inspection, pre-shipment testing and batch testing.

Many sectors rely on third party testing to demonstrate product conformity to their customers, none more so than in high tech arenas such as the rail, marine and oil & gas sectors. These and related project-based industries have special requirements due to the specific nature of the operating environment that cables will experience during their service life. These will include high and low temperatures, oil / chemical exposure, vibration, fire performance, abrasion and flexing.

BASEC’s laboratory in Milton Keynes can carry out a range of tests to verify a cable’s construction, materials and its electrical properties. Our state-of-the-art fire laboratory can carry out tests on fire resistance, circuit integrity and reaction to fire, supported by a range of smoke emission, halogens, acid gas and toxicity tests. Testing to national, European and International standards can be carried out, as well as to sector specifications and end user requirements.
