Join BASEC at Wire and Cable Guangzhou 2019 - further strengthening local presence in Asia

BASEC is exhibiting for the first time at GIWC19. As part of BASEC’s commitment to the region they will feature as an international keynote, presenting on the topic of Cable Quality.

With substandard cable and fire testing a key concern for the market, BASEC will showcase strengths in cable testing and certification services that are delivered to the worldwide cable industry. BASEC has invested in the region with a local and dedicated team to support the Asia markets, with customers already located in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The team is made up of Vincent Lai – Regional Commercial Manager who is based in our Malaysia office and Peter Scott – Regional Technical Manager who is based in the region, local auditor Selina Cheung and Mathew Sharman – Customer Account Executive, based in the UK.

In 2018, the fair and co-located event Electric Asia, welcomed 22,670 visitors and professional buyers from 41 countries and regions during the three-day event. Receiving solid support from industry associations, the fairs have continued to strengthen their position as a premium trade platform for the wire and cable market in South China.

With a buoyant market, new build construction projects are growing in the region. The fair welcomes visitors from key buying delegation groups, including EHV Power Transmission Co, China Southern Power Grid Power Generation Co, Guangdong Energy Association, Dongguan Power Trade Association, Guangxi Electric Power Engineering Enterprise, Zhuhai Electric Power Association, Henan Province Electric Power Enterprise Association, Jiangmen Energy Industry Association, Baiyun Electric Appliance Group and more.

These delegation groups are central to the building projects, often starting with the end users, incorporating the electrical-design, architectural engineers and consultants, together with the building contractors, buyers and quality managers who are also involved in the specification and buying processes. Cable products once specified must be sourced through the supply chain, either direct from the manufacturers or from wholesalers, distributors and stockists. Each country and region is guided by their regional or country-specific regulatory bodies that will enforce requirements for independent cable testing; to measure the performance of mechanical, electrical, material, chemical and fire characteristics in line with industry standards.

BASEC is a leading provider of product certification, which is amongst the most rigorous in the industry, as well as cable testing to ensure products are compliant with the relevant standards. As industry experts in CPR (construction products regulation) testing BASEC has issued over 2,500 CPR classification reports, delivered through in-house laboratory equipment and is working closely with manufacturers to raise cable product classifications for higher fire performance characteristics. The goal is to help the industry to understand and apply consistent levels of cable quality and to assess how the component materials will behave over time, with respect to all risk factors. BASEC also performs specific one-off and standalone fire testing on cable products, as required.

To support product certification, BASEC also provides integrated management systems assessments, including the BASEC product certification requirements, quality management systems to ISO 9001, environmental management systems to ISO 14001, and Health & Safety management systems to IS0 45001. BASEC has recently launched schemes for Registered Stockists to gain quality approval of processes and procedures involved with sourcing products, and a scheme for Control Cables recognised in industry as YY, SY, CY products. To achieve consistent and meet the levels required in industry, BASEC is driving the supply chain to improve quality and safety of cables.

Overall, BASEC is a recognised sign of assurance, symbolic of independent cable testing and approval. As an independent body, it has for over 45 years been a mark of reassurance to those specifying cable.
