Training for the future

BASEC's auditors attended a one-day training day at our Milton Keynes offices recently to ensure they are kept up to date with the latest industry information and develop their knowledge and skills as specialists in the cabling sector.


Website covers Wiring Regulations

Electrical industry portal Voltimum has created a special website to keep the electrical industry informed of the progress of the 17th Edition.  The new regulations BS 7671: 2008 come out in January 2008 and take effect from June 2008. Low Carbon Register taking off

The new simulation side of The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers' (CIBSE's) Low Carbon Consultants Register is set to be unveiled at the Institutions' 2007 National Conference, taking place in London on 24 and 25 April following the success of the operation and design aspects of the register. Jeremy adds the personal touch

Chief Executive Jeremy Hodge was on hand to present their first BASEC certificate to Michael Rees of National Cables Industry, Sharjah (pictured) at the Middle East Electricity show held in Dubai. Jeremy also met with a number of other industry organisations as part of his trip and discussed the various issues affecting the area as the pace of construction projects and regeneration continues across much of the region.


Architects make their point

The Royal Institute of British Architects has submitted its comments on the Building A Greener Future consultation paper to the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). 
RIBA wants a clear and communicable definition of zero carbon, all new homes to achieve at least Code Level 1 by April 2008, better assessment and proper enforcemen and to make the Code cover all buildings, including commercial, industrial and existing homes. More...


 

BASEC goes out on the road

BASEC Chief Executive Jeremy Hodge, pictured, is getting out and about in the regions and has recently made a presentation to the ECA Central Lancashire branch at Leyland, Lancashire, where he gave an update of the organisation's work and offered advice and guidance to members. In May, he is giving  presentations to the one-day ECA Greater London conference at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and also to members of the ECA's Colchester branch, part of the Eastern region.


Certification committee oversees operations

New members of the BASEC certification committee are taking on new responsibilities for overseeing BASEC certification issues including approving new schemes and testing regimes. More news about the committee's activities will be available soon.


Mineral cable producer gains certification

 Wrexham Mineral Cables has been awarded BASEC approval for its range of mineral insulated cables. The company manufactures a range of products for markets worldwide from its plant in north Wales.
