BASEC offers a wide range of services in product approvals and certification, systems assessment and certification, auditing for process capability in cable making and independent testing and reporting in the event of disputes.

Product Marking and Certification
Product Marking and Certification are methods whereby BASEC verifies that processes and manufacturers' products comply with national and international product standards. Organisations may apply for a licence to display the BASEC mark on their products once BASEC has verified that the products fully comply with specification.

The certification process includes product testing at independent laboratories and ongoing sample testing and surveillance.

Management System Certification
BASEC operates individual or integrated management system assessment schemes, leading to the issuing of management systems certification such as:-

• Quality to ISO 9001 or BA 2250 Part 1 & 2
• Environmental management systems to ISO 14001
• Health & Safety management systems to OHSAS 18001

The BASEC schemes are designed to assess an organisation's ability to produce goods and services consistently to specification and customer requirements, in a safe manner and with due regard to environmental needs.

Audits where more than one of these is employed may be conducted individually or on an integrated basis.

Certificate of Assessed Design
BASEC offers a Certificate of Assessed Design in respect of new concepts for which no national or international standard exists. A manufacturer’s or users/other specification may be used as the baseline specification, which BASEC may review to ensure that current industry standards, e.g. test methods, are incorporated as appropriate.

Process Capability Approval
A certification process that verifies the capability of a defined set of manufacturing processes. As Capability Approval includes witness testing it covers products made within the defined process boundaries, without the need for external testing for each type of product.

Testing and Reporting
For an interested party wishing a cable to be independently tested, this service allows reports to be issued regarding a cable and conformity to specification. No right to use a BASEC mark is awarded.
