Cable approvals go live online

The British Approvals Service for Cables (BASEC) has made its prestigious approval certificates available online.

As part of its increasing range of web-based information services, BASEC is making all its certificates for product approvals available to view and download from its website.

This means that distributors, wholesalers, installers and end users can check that a cable certification is valid, and manufacturers can point to the site for verification of certification for their products.

Dr Jeremy Hodge, Chief Executive of BASEC, said: "We want our clients to be able to showcase their approvals, and the information to be readily accessible to purchasers and users.  Certificates show the approved size, range and other information.  This is a practical and valuable new service for everyone in the cable supply chain.

"Certification ensures safety for the supplier, distributor and the end user, removing possible issues further down the line.

"BASEC approved cables are subject to a wide range of tests and regular production surveillance.  They are better quality and carry a lower risk in installation and use."

The service complements BASEC's continuing initiative to share information electronically which includes a new website with additional functionality, guidance notes, FAQs, search facilities and daily business news updates. See for other BASEC information.

BASEC's new e-bulletin will also keep clients and the wider electrical industry informed of latest news, comment and guidance.
