BASEC appoints new CE

24/05/05

With effect from 1st April 2005 Dr Jeremy Hodge has been appointed Chief Executive of the British Approvals Service for Cables (BASEC), the cable manufacturing industry’s specialist and independent, UKAS accredited certification body.

Immediately prior to his appointment at BASEC, Dr Hodge was Director of Research at the Building Research Establishment, based in Watford, and has enjoyed a distinguished business career during which he has acquired a wealth of experience of the certification industry and the needs of users.

“This is an exciting time to be joining BASEC,” Dr Hodge commented, “when there is an increasing awareness of the need for reliable and independent quality, environmental and health and safety certification. I’m really looking forward to working with BASEC’s extensive UK and international client base and range of stakeholders, and to the opportunity of developing BASEC’s services in a number of new directions.”

Formed in 1973 by an association of cable manufacturers, cable users and the British Standards Institution, the British Approvals Service for Cables is a non-profit making, independent, Government-nominated body which, by detailed examination of manufacturers’ production processes and controls, and rigorous testing, ensures that cable products meet appropriate National, European of International standards.
